Quasar are Cambridge's premiere hip hop, R&B and jazz fusion band. After opening for Chaka Khan and winning the Cambridge-wide battle of the bands Take It To The Bridge competition in 2024, 2025 finds the band at the peak of their powers. Quasar draw from a deep repertoire of their own takes on everything from old school MF DOOM, Nas and Biggie joints, to smooth R&B from the likes of Lauryn Hill and Jorja Smith, to contemporary classics from artists including Doechii and Kendrick Lamar. With their prodigious live setup, showstopping vocalists and two prolific MCs, Quasar never disappoint. Facts: every hip hop show is better with a live band.
Formed in 2009, the brainchild of the city's ten finest funk-mongers came to life within the hallowed halls of Clare College, Cambridge, when a group of undergrads spotted their mutual appreciation for bombastic Riot Jazz and the infectious rhythms of New Orleans Brass bands. Since then Colonel Spanky's Love Ensemble has played quite literally countless parties, weddings and, of course, Cambridge balls! Specialising in playing bangers from across the ages that you can't help but sing along to and some infectious dance moves on stage, its impossible to watch and not have a good time!
